Job Summary
- We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Assistant Manager to lead actuarial initiatives that support business growth, profitability, and risk management objectives. The incumbent will make use of professional knowledge to help our business succeed by making sense of the world of statistical probabilities
- This position will help the business to make sound strategic decisions by analyzing historical trends, weighing up risks and creating models
- The successful candidate will combine strong technical actuarial expertise with leadership capabilities to drive strategic projects, and partner with cross-functional stakeholders across the organization
- This role offers significant opportunities to lead business-critical projects, influence key decisions, and contribute to the development of actuarial capabilities and processes
Job Accountabilities
- Support product pricing and product development for Life and Health insurance (e.g., Term, Critical Illness, Participating whole of life, Universal Life, Investment linked); make recommendations to product architecture and actuarial assumptions/ methodology where appropriate
- Develop pricing models using actuarial assumptions (mortality, morbidity, lapse, expenses, investment returns). Perform sensitivity and scenario testing to assess financial impact
- Work closely with other teams in product implementation to ensure timely and accurate delivery
- Provide actuarial input for marketing materials and sales illustrations
- Prepare documentation for regulatory filings and group product approvals
- Support the on-going monitoring of product profitability and sustainability
- Translate complex actuarial concepts into clear business insights for senior management and governance committees and non-technical stakeholders
- Contribute to business planning, portfolio management, and profitability improvement initiatives
- Support regulatory, audit, and governance requirements as applicable
- Provide training and coaching to junior staff(s) to uplift their technical skills
- Support succession planning and talent development within the actuarial function
- Support ad-hoc projects, or other product initiatives as assigned to the team
Job Qualifications
- University graduate in Actuarial Science or related disciplines with about 4 - 8 years of relevant experience
- Associate or close to Fellow of a recognized actuarial body e.g. SOA, IFoA, FIAA, HKIA or equivalent)
- Solid knowledge of life actuarial techniques, tools and methodologies
- Knowledge or exposure to product pricing will be advantaged
- Experience engaging with senior executives and influencing business decisions is preferred
- Proficient in MS Office, VBA and actuarial software (e.g. Prophet)
- Good analytical skills and good communication and interpersonal competencies
- Strong self-initiative with good time management skills to handle multiple tasks, and able to work independently
- Candidates with solid / relevant work experience in pricing will be a definite advantage
- Candidates with different experience levels can be considered for Senior Pricing Actuarial Associate or other positions
